Chapter Thirteen
Cassidy was warm.
Not in a bad way. Just in an unfamiliar way. Sheâd gotten used to waking up in the cold of the camp house, but that wasnât the case as she slowly came to life. She was warm. And comfortable.
And there were warm, strong arms around her.
And then she remembered.
A big inhale coupled with a big smile happened next and when she lifted her head, soft brown eyes were gazing at her.
âGood morning,â Frankie whispered.
âMorning. When did we fall asleep?â She lay back against what she now knew was Frankieâs shoulder, her arm draped across Frankieâs middle.
âWe didnât. You did.â
Cassidy snapped her head back up, suddenly horrified. âOh my God, Iâm so sorry.â But when she tried to push herself up, Frankieâs arms tightened around her.
âNo, no, itâs okay. Lie back down.â
Cassidy held her gaze for a moment before relenting and relaxing. âIâm sorry.â
âWhy? Because you fell asleep?â She could feel Frankieâs smile against her forehead. âNo reason to be. You fell asleep and then I wasnât far behind. I only woke up a few minutes before you.â
The words hung there for a beat before Cassidy made the connection. She lifted her head again so she could see Frankieâs eyes. âYou slept?â
The smile was slow in coming, but it came. A slight nod. âI did. A good couple of hours.â
She glanced down at their bodies, smooshed together on the couch, her body half on, half off Frankieâs, and she frowned. âWith me lying all over you like this?â
âYes, maâam.â And then Frankieâs face grew serious. âIt was a nice change, to be honest.â
Cassidy blinked at her before settling back down with a âHuh.â
âYou will need to charge your phone, however.â
Cassidy looked up at her, and Frankie indicated the floor a few feet away where her phone lay, facedown. She remembered the flashlight, the sliver.
âIt went off eventually.â
âHowâs your hand?â Cassidy lay back down and grasped Frankieâs hand when she raised it. âWe shouldâve put a Band-Aid on it.â
âYeah, well, we were a little busy.â
And it wasnât that she didnât remember what had happened merely hours before, but there was something about Frankieâs words that seemed to open floodgates. And flood she did. Her body flushed hotly, her underwear dampened, and she had to swallow down the lump of arousal that appeared in her throat out of nowhere. âWe were, werenât we?â Then she waved a hand dismissively in the direction of the device on the floor. âWho needs a stupid phone anyway?â
She felt Frankieâs laugh under her more than she even heard it. The rumble in her chest. The way she moved just a bit underneath her. She lifted her head so they were face to face, their noses just about touching, and she brought her lips softly to Frankieâs. Tentative. Gentle. Sheâd absently wondered if kissing Frankie would feel different in the light of day, but it didnât. It was still wonderful. Hot. Sexy.
The sound of the back door banging open and loud, likely booted footsteps clomping through the house made her jerk in surprise.
